Since the age of 12, one daughter has done the dishes (for the whole day) and the other has done the laundry (not just hers - the whole family). That's their only responsibility, but it sure makes my life easier! (And just between you and me, I could be a hand model now - years of no hot water and suds has done wonders for my skin! :)

Melinda--Can you call my kids and tell them I'm doing a great job? They just think I'm mean and NOBODY has to work like they do. :)

LOVE this post too, Sherra. I concur with your beliefs that children NEED to help and be taught responsibility. I think that's a part of our job description, isn't it? It should be, if not but I know there's kids out there that can't do laundry or cook for themselves! (and I'm talking teenagers!!)
NOT in this house!! I've never done any of your systems but they sound wonderful. We have posted jobs on the front of the fridge occasionally when we felt like everyone needed reminding but have also found that monthly responsibilities are better in our house as well. (Never occurred to me they would need that much time to "master" a skill!)
I can't believe the number of folks that send kids off to college not knowing how to take care of themselves. I know most of them will be slobs for the first year or two but hopefully that early training will kick in and they will realize WHY we told them they needed to learn to make their own beds! I know grown folks now that can't get in the bed at night unless it's been made up first ( now that's a neuroses for you!) HA! (not mine, can you tell?) I firmly believe bedroom doors were invented to be shut. Privacy and all that.
keep it up! You're doing a great job (here and with the kids!)
