Tammy--Great idea for those with two kids. Since 3 of my kids are odd (no real surprise there) and one is even, the system wouldn't work so great for me. But we did something similar which I'll share on tomorrow's post that may help someone with more odd children than even ones. LOL. Thanks for sharing your great system! :)

I thought I would offer a couple of tips concerning the teenage chore issue. Let me preface this by saying we do not pay (and have never paid!) our kids an allowance. To help us keep track of things we use an even - odd system for most everything in our home that the kids share a responsibility in. Since we have two kids and one was born on an odd day and the other an even day, it makes this system easy! For example: they have to change their cat's litter box on Monday. If the date is odd, then my youngest gets to decide what part of the task she will do. If it is even, the other decides. It helps us decide who gets to ride shotgun in the car, who is responsible for dishes, laundry, etc. Because we home school, my children have far more chores than the average child so, when complaints come, my standard reply to the question of "Why do we have so many chores?" is always "Hey, I don't charge you rent, do I?" Like you said, as parents we are here to teach them life lessons and I want nothing more than them to move out and take care of themselves all on their own! :>)

Rhonda--I really did get a lot of great nuggets out of many of their books. This is not to say I'm not still intimidated by their success in raising NINE kids (I still have to shout that whenever I refer to them!) and I recently read the updates on their "SUPER" kids at http://www.theeyres.com/second_generation.html. No less intimidated and always impressed, especially in today's world! :)

Oh my... do I ever remember the learning I did reading Linda and Richard Eyre's books. We too did the charts and "checks" as we called them. To this day, my kids will stand at the door waiting to catch the bus, and go through their "checks" out loud.

Sometimes it is funny to hear them talking to themselves.... saying, "feed the dog?" Check. Load the dishes, check... and so on.

Great post.
