We might have been dysfunctional but we were also hip and cool.
Ann guessed correctly last week.
Thanks to those of you who guessed in the 70′s. That was either very polite or you’re too young to be guessing. Either way I appreciate it.
I thought I’d give you a glimpse of how hip and cool we were. (In case you missed it by our hair and clothes.)
This was our bedroom.
The turquoise bedspreads, the wall art, the lamp…how much hip and cool can you stand?
I think you can now purchase reproductions of the entire room at Ikea.
Toy box was a retail display cabinet that my dad brought home that served us well through three states and at least four moves.
As you can clearly see, Julie and I had our own stereo record player. And blender? I don’t remember the blender but maybe Julie was mixing drinks and I didn’t know it. She is older than me and was much more social.
I thought the pictures were another great opportunity to test your history skills. I bring you another guessing game. This is practice for future contests with prizes. Yee haw!
Rules are the same as last week:
- Cousins and siblings are ineligible to guess.
- No prize will be awarded except your own personal satisfaction that you may receive for being correct.
1) What is the name of the doll on the upper bunk bed?
2) What record album is partially covered sitting next to our stereo?
Earn your bragging rights by leaving a comment right now and we’ll see who can answer both questions correctly. I’ll let you know who was right on Friday. Let the guessing begin!

Sherra, OK I am not allowed to guess but I think the doll is a ##### ##### (edited) which Sally had one of and I’m sure Neil destroyed with his gang of “little green Army guys”. Thought you’d like to know that TODAY there is a lamp exactly like that in my mom’s house in one of the bedrooms, however, it has been expertly spray painted a lusterous “bronze”. We will be clearing the house soon and putting it on the market, so hurry up and put in for first dibs on this great “find”! Cousin Dee
Cousin Dee » I’ll pick up the lamp next week – save it for me!! Oh sure, you break the rules and guess the doll but didn’t even attempt to guess the album.
(For any kids reading this, albums were like giant CDs that the old folks listened to before iTunes and computers and other newfangled contraptions were invented)
Isn’t the doll on the top bunk Chatty Cathy? (I had Walky Talky Susie!) Here’s a wild guess on the album…The Partridge Family. BTW…Dan got me a turntable a couple of years ago so I could listen to my favorite albums and he recently got us a different turntable that will turn albums into MP3 files for the computer and/or iPod. We love those pops and squeaks from our old albums and as we go nosing around dead people’s junk at estate sales, we look for those albums we didn’t have back in the day and buy them now for $1.00! Good stuff!!
Oh boy does that bedroom bring back memories of mine!! I loved my room so much…I spent hours and hours in my room listening to my record collection (I still have them would you believe!)
I’m not sure what album is on the dresser but the doll looks like chatty kathy to me.
I totally know what the album is, and I remember the doll, I won’t say the name, but it is just weird to see those pictures. I forgot all about that display case Dad got with all of the stuff on it. (Weird). I’ll give a clue about the album because no one seems to be getting it. Did you see the movie Meet the Parents? (That’s a good hint!!) You have to do more of those types of pictures, I haven’t seen any of them for, I don’t know, 30 years? !!! God, am I old…..Oh, by the way, Ali will tell you I have issues as well. She cannot stand when I have to have her room picked up a certain way every day. Our house is small, not small, kinda small, REALLY SMALL, Sherra knows. It’s cool, and modern, that’s why it’s small, so we can afford to buy cool stuff to put in it!!! Anyway, I like to have her room looking just right because I don’t WANT TO SHUT HER DOOR, (like she says), I want it opened to keep the “space” flowing, and it’s a cool room, fuchsia, and lime green with black and white zebra pillows!!!! Call me crazy, but I don’t want to walk past her room and see her dirty underwear on the floor and half empty water bottles and makeup all over the floor!!!!!!!!! OCD? NO – ORGANIZED !!!!! Whatever, (even Moms can say that! ) Anyway, nice blog, and it cheered me up today, it’s only 37 degrees today, I guess Spring’s over.
No clue on either the album OR the doll. I even have a Chatty Cathy right here in the box. It could be her but that’s not a very good picture. Don’t you have any of you HOLDING her?? LOL
I’ll bring her with me to lunch the next time I see you so you can listen to her talk again.
IS it Chatty Cathy? You haven’t posted the answer yet, have you?
And do tell what the album is, please. I’ll show it to my hubby tonight. He was born in ’65 so he’ll have a better idea I bet. I was NOT into music until my 20′s probably. I was on my horse until then and since we didn’t have Ipods I didn’t listen to any tunes while riding.
Wish I could get my whole house organized. Is your sister available for hire?
I am waaaaayyyyy too young to have a clue about this so I won’t even guess! (I know, don’t hate me! I can’t help that I was born after you…blame my mother…or perhaps her mother…) Anyway, enjoyed the blog as always! I bet you and your sister were something to behold back in the day!
What?! No beanbag chair?
Gayle » I don’t think the beanbag chair had been invented yet. We did have one in our next room in Michigan!
