Lovely story, Sherra. Thanks for sharing.
My dad also is a very special part of my kid's lives. When I found out I was having twins my mom's first reaction was "I'll give you ever how much money you need to hire a sitter just don't expect me to keep them." How sweet. And her a twin herself. Go figure. She did however LOVE teenagers. My sister and I finally figured that out. Dad was the "baby" parent and mom was there when they became a teenager. Teenagers scare dad. Mom liked to party with them and yes, I miss her still. Can't believe it's been 6 years this year. The anniversary of her passing is coming up in March and we usually make a trip to the cemetery to visit. She didn't get to enjoy my girls' becoming teenagers. I tell them she would have loved to have taken them shopping (cause I don't).

My son, in particular, LOVES to spend time with his grand-dad. Daddy lets him come to the lake and spend the night with him. It's a little scary for me but so for he's survived (my son that is). Twice now, he's had to have a grandchild rescue him. We keep telling him he needs to have somebody living with him. My sister's son saved the day a couple of years ago when dad had a low blood sugar episode. He was able to tell JAckson before he went into a stupor to call your mom and tell him my blood sugar is low.
The next time it was one of the twin's turn. She had just turned 15 and gotten her learner's permit. I drove down and met dad to hand over one of the twins and their brother for an overnight stay. Made her go because I don't quite trust dad on his own. Good thing, she had to drive him to the hospital after dark on strange roads for another medical emergency. He lives way off the road so he didn't think an ambulance could find him. Encouraging, don't you think? She and my son both were terrified of course. Called us and we jumped in the car and headed down but the soonest we can get there is about an hour.

Parents. You can't do without'em and you can't shoot'em.
