Golden Grahams Love

Scary Baby has been begging me to buy these treat bars.

I ignored her pleas since we’ve been in a bit of a cereal battle here at the Humpfreeze house. We have spent several years trying to wean her off cereal. We know that starting the day with protein vs. a sugar high is a better for her especially to start her school day.

You know we’re not earthy crunchy. You know we love our sweets. But we are trying to take baby steps to improve our diets and that’s hard when you are a sugar addict!

I know deprivation doesn’t work so I’m always looking for “healthier” treats. I also know that’s subjective and everyone has an opinion on that.

The best progress we’ve made is to keep her choices in the 10 sugar grams per serving or less otherwise it’s like eating dessert for breakfast.

Don’t judge.

Side note: Golden Grahams may be my personal favorite cereal. Ever. Ate it in high school one entire year. Love it.

Lucky Charms. Not so much.

Scary Baby loves both.

I just don’t want marshmallows or chocolate for breakfast.

When I was offered the opportunity to review the very treat bars that Scary Baby wanted soooo bad, I thought this might be a good treat for both of us.

My opinion is that a treat bar with 13 grams of sugar and less than 140 calories per bar could be a good after school snack instead of a candy bar and a soda. (Not saying that was ever her snack!)

We all really liked them. The Golden Grahams treat bar was the definite winner at our house! Four out of five of us preferred them over the Lucky Charms treat bars. (Roger Leroy wasn’t home to try them.)

That’s definitely tough – in our family we love, love, love sugar! My baby is a sugar addict, too! My vote is for the Lucky Charms.

My daughter would eat cereal for every meal if I would let her. I think she would like the Golden Graham bars to take to school with her.

Noah would probably like the Lucky Charms bars best but I would NOT buy them for him! After being diagnosed diabetic last year, we’ve definitely cut out a lot of sugar at our house!

YEAH! The Lucky Charms bars are GLUTEN FREE!!! Thanks for bringing them to my attention. Can’t wait to try some! We eat Lucky Charms cereal sometimes as a treat because yummy gluten free treats are hard to come by – but these look like even more of a treat!
Recently, during a semi-stressful (ok, really stressful) time in my life, I pulled out the Lucky Charms late one night and sat there and ate ALL of the marshmallows out of the box. (I did eat some of the regular pieces too – can’t JUST eat the marshmallows.) Anyway, the next morning one of my daughters pulled out the Lucky Charms and poured herself a bowl for breakfast. Shortly afterward I came into the kitchen and asked what she had eaten for breakfast (good mom, huh?) She said, “Well, I had a bowl of Lucky.” I was like, huh? What’s lucky? She held up the box and proceeded to tell me that someone had eaten all of the “charms” out of the box….so she was just left with “Lucky” for breakfast. Hmmmm…….I wonder who would do that?!?! I’ve been caught! Now whenever the Lucky Charms get pulled out and the kids don’t think there are enough “charms” in them, I get accused of hijacking the box again. Usually I’m innocent…I’ve only done it twice :o)

Definitely the Golden Grahams. Tessa is our cold cereal lover at our house – she’d eat it three meals a day if I let her. Golden Grahams is one of her favorites!

Ok I’m going for Golden Grahams! But then if I choose Lucky charms I could send it to my college son in a care package. What a dilemma!

Hey Sherra, I think we have similar diets. I also love Golden Grahams. My daughter is 20 and she still has a perpetual box of cereal near her computer while she works. Love to try the treats.

Well, Lucky Charms are a favorite as far as cereal is concerned but I beleive I spy some chocolate on the bottom of the Golden Graham bars which pushes it to the top of my list.

Unlike you, Sherra, I love chocolate any time of day. I guess this is why my very favorite cereal in the whole wide world is Count Chocula. It is one thing I will never outgrow. That reminds me I haven’t had it in such a long time…I might hit the store after work and grab a box! Yummmm!
