Natalie » Welcome to Georgia and may you never have water in new house! We really do love the basement floor in spite of the fire…and the burst pipe and subsequent standing water a few weeks ago really confirmed our decision!

Melinda » We are doing more than thinking about moving! But not because of the basement…just want to get those twins through high school and then head to a smaller, quieter place!!

Tammy » I think you have just invented a new product for basements…plastic rugs. Or are those called bath mats and they just need to make bigger ones? Speaking of Ikea, the bulk of the basement is decorated a la Ikea and Target, I should have thanked them!

All I have to say is God bless you, Sherra and God Bless Xanax! I hope that nothing was too bad off because it all looked fabulous. Great job! Props to the no sofa or comfy chairs for cuddling! Personally, I have even thought about those courting benches where the seats face opposite directions...something to think on! Perhaps you should go to IKEA and get all plastic furnishings. Maybe they even have plastic rugs as well - then you could just wipe them off with a towel and all would be well.

Anyway, love your writing as always! Hope everything is repaired and back together. Let us know what you find out about the ancient burial grounds...

you know, I think I agree with the neighbor that suggested looking into the history of your home. And maybe think about moving?

It is nice? to finally hear the story and see the pictures??? Not really sure I needed to see them but it always amazes me of how you think to take pictures. I love how the Grunter usually doesn't look too happy but the rest of your family still thinks to "smile".

Hopefully this was the 3rd thing in your string of bad luck and now you will live happily ever after...

I've got a few stories of my own I'll have to send you some time. Of course I don't have pictures to go with mine. You know about the house fire 13 years ago of course. We've had some more bad luck in this house but no more fire, thank the Lord. Of course as you know water damage is every bit as bad. We made some flooring changes ourself. I'll have to remember that little painted concrete business for the future...

I have been a long time reader of your blog and I just want to say thank you for posting your story! We too have had water issues with our home in Texas and I feel your pain! We are in the process of moving to Georgia which also means our first basement. I love your idea of stained concrete, nobody can truly appreciate the concrete until you've experienced wet carpet in your house! I'm also keeping a mental note of the chairs only idea as I have 2 young boys :) Thanks for the post!
