Glad to see everyone enjoyed the cartoon and I'm not all alone thinking it's on the self-absorbed side to not be able to hang up and get through the checkout line!! Thanks for all the great comments!

Sherra,
After working at a retail store for one year and then a grocery store for two years I could not agree more with this brilliant idea! I think it would be great if I could taser the people talking on the phone, it is my biggest pet peeve while I work. Although we might lose a few customers, I bet they would learn not to talk on there phones while checking out. Hah the cartoon was great.
                                                                     Your DD Lizzie

I agree with you and everyone else' comments. I work in retail and there is nothing I hate more than trying to help a customer who is on their cell phone. I also hate texting when I'm around others. Any activity that takes one away from connecting with others in a group is not a good activity.

Absolutely agree with this one, Sherra! And I've never worked as a cashier OR known anybody (besides your daughters I guess) who did. I just think it's rude anytime you are in a public place to carry on private conversations. I know you've talked about folks that answer their cell phones or talk on them in bathrooms before and I hate this too. Guess we have a LOT of important ppl walking around these days and we just don't realize it. I remember being in a restaurant one day and seeing a whole group of ladies ALL talking on their cell phones and I just wondered why they bothered to have lunch with each other if they couldn't turn off or ignore their cell phones for 30 minutes to enjoy a friend's company.

RUDE!!!!!! Part of their job is to make sure you found everything and to get some feedback! Ignoring the cashier is the worst!!! Use the self-checkout lane if you're so independent and don't need anyone. And take your cell phone with you!!! I LOVED your cartoon, and would love to be able to taser people who are rude. They are so busy talking that they don't stop for 2 seconds to realize how rude they are!

Two comments from me:

First, the cartoon was so funny I peed in my pants - not really but it was that funny!

Second, I totally agree! What could be so important that you cannot get off your cell for 30 stinking seconds and connect with another human being? Ask them how their day is, look them in the eyes, make a connection. Life is too short to miss moments to touch another person's life with a smile or a word of kindness!

Okay, I will get off my soap box now...but really that cartoon was a riot!!!

I couldn't agree more! I always try to be respectful to others around me by not talking on my cell phone in front of others - whether they be cashiers, sales people, other shoppers, friends, and even my family. If there are real people around to interact with, that should happen before phone calls. Of course there are going to be times when it is necessary, but I try to remind myself and my family that the main reason we even HAVE cell phones is for emergencies. Not so we can be distracted by the phone while we do everything else.

This is one of my biggest pet peaves! I do not want to hear other peoples conversations and do not want to be in line behind that person that is yapping away rudely while the rest of us want to move on in line and be out of there. Yes I know that was a horrible run-on sentence. I have been a cashier myself , before cell phones, I am old. So I can imagine how frustrating it would be to deal with those people. We have too much rudeness out there. Ok I am done

I stand in agreement with you. If you want to carry on a FULL conversation (vs. and emergency call from a child) leave your cart and step outside. Without perhaps meaning to, the message you convey to the cashier and others in line is, "You are not worthy of 30 seconds of my undivided attention." Ditto for people texting, listening to iPods, surfing on your iPhone or playing your GameBoy. If you are in the company of people, be WITH the people. Save the gadgets for solitude; enjoy people while you have them.
