Flexible Friday #16:
Participation Required Please

by Sherra on October 2, 2008
in Moments, Random Thoughts

I’m planning a few changes and tweaks with my site in the near future.

I’d love to hear from each and every one of you about…

  • What you like.
  • What you don’t like.
  • What you’d like to see more of.
  • What you’d like to see less of.

Like maybe me not ending sentences with a preposition.*

Or like me not starting sentences with the word “like.”

Or like not even using the word “like.”

Bring it on. Leave a comment below.

Remember if you are reading this through email subscription or an RSS reader you have to click through to the website.

In the two most used words of my mom, my Aunt Jane, my cousin Sally and me, please try to…

BE NICE.

Think of me fondly as I go to another cross country race on Saturday without a chair and not running into the woods after my daughters.

Have a great weekend!

*Like I totally feel a lot better about the preposition issue since I just learned this thanks to dictionary.com

Could someone please verify this and then notify my high school English teachers?

—Usage note The often heard but misleading “rule” that a sentence should not end with a preposition is transferred from Latin, where it is an accurate description of practice. But English grammar is different from Latin grammar, and the rule does not fit English. In speech, the final preposition is normal and idiomatic, especially in questions: What are we waiting for? Where did he come from? You didn’t tell me which floor you worked on.

Sherra, Like where to start. We have threatened many times that on Mom’s gravestone we will be putting, She lived a great life and only wanted everyone to “BE NICE”. Even on every birthday or mother’s day, when asked what she wanted, her comment would be “Just be nice” (try finding that at you neighborhood Walmart!) Anyway, I like everything, makes me laugh when I really need a laugh. I really do enjoy the pictures, and cannot help but wonder where in the world do you keep that camera and is it the size of a lipstick (like the spy movies) or what. Do you have it on you 24/7 ?

PS See my late comment on squirrels please-you won’t regret it! Dayna

Cousin Dee » At least get the “BE NICE” gravestone and see if you can get a volume discount or throw in a couple of engraved urns so we can stock up for the whole female side! ;)

I have to say that I love it all. It makes me laugh out loud. I even forward to family & friends whether they want me to or not. My kids are 5 and 7 so there have been certain things (new potential date coming to dinner) that my husband has asked me to file away for future use! Keep it up! I really enjoy your view of things.

What do I love? the humorhumorhumorhumor. Laugh or go crazy, right?
What would I like to see? A daily posting (certainly not the answer you were hoping for—see I can do that preposition at the end thing, too).

Joanne » Thanks so much for kind words and always glad to hear that someone else is laughing OUT LOUD besides me! ;)

julieann » Good motto but I am already crazy so mine is “Laugh and be crazy.” Thanks for being only one of THREE people who followed directions and participated as REQUIRED…no one seems to appreciate my bossy humor except you and Joanne and Dayna. I’ll spend some time reflecting on that today.

I didn’t look at the REQUIRED; I saw the “please.” How can any of you resist a please? Help her out!

I’ve been out of town and missed a few posts, but love to take the time to catch up with them. It’s a great break in my day and one I’ve come to enjoy more than I ever thought – both on this blog and on the iLash site!

    The things I like most:
I love the humor that you find in every day life.
I know I can laugh even when the subject is a little – or a lot – dark (you may not know this, but many people do not appreciate this trait!).
    The pictures are always entertaining.

    What I wish could change:
Being able to read all the comments in one string – or to keep the dialog from one post to the next. Not sure how, or if, this is possible or even if it would be a good thing. Maybe it’s just me being to lazy to click back and forth??

I think you do a fantastic job of keeping a lot of people entertained, grounded in reality, and (yes, I’m still talking about you) sane. Keep it up!
