Bargain Shopping 101 ~ Part Two

So many things to do with that $336 dollars I saved in February…
Was it a coincidence that I ripped this article out of Oprah magazine?

This article featured jeans under $100 which in magazine-land is a major bargain price.
In spite of the title, no thank you, I’m actually not looking for ways to build a better butt.
I’m always looking for great jeans at a reasonable price.
I wanted to find these jeans and try them on so I was saving the article.
Side note: I would also like to clarify that I do not share this particular woman’s problem of “whale tail” which is a new phrase I learned. Nor do I think I need a “push-up bra for my butt” I just liked the other features described.

$59 for great jeans is really a great price.
Then I noticed the price of the blouse.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????????
Tell me if you have ever spent $700 on a blouse? Do I know you?
Holy cow, I just can’t get over that.
With my weak math skills I have figured out that with my $336 that I “saved” in February, I could…
Buy FIVE pairs of these jeans.
Or I’m not quite halfway to buying a new blouse.
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single article of clothing?
I’m going to ponder that while I wrap myself in one of my $7.00 sweaters…

I can’t recall spending over $100 on anything. I would like to tell you about a website my husband found for me. Yes, my husband, after spending many long weekends holding shopping bags and sitting in uncomfortable waiting room chairs while I tried to find the “perfect” pair of jeans. I am a difficult fit for jeans as I have a small waist and large behind. The website is zafu.com and you put in your body measurements and it tells you what jeans will fit. It really works. I put in my body type and the number one jean that came up for me was the Lucky Easy Rider. Needless to say Rockford does not have a Lucky store so the next weekend I drove to Woodfield and walked in to the Lucky store – $98 a pair but they fit perfect – he told me to buy 3 pairs. That was 4 years ago and I still go there for my jeans.
I’m going to hope that $715 was a typo!!!! Maybe $175?? That’s still too much. I’m laughing that we can’t even see this INCREDIBLE blouse in the picture!!! It’s all tucked in and covered up by the $367 “jacket”!!!!!!!!
Glad you’ve found some awesome reasonable jeans! Thanks for the laugh!
Like you, I hate paying full retail for anything. However, I will make two exceptions – bathing suits and jeans. If they don’t fit right, I am likely to push them to the back of the closet and never wear them. Yes, a total waste of money and I have done it over and over again. These days I know better and will not buy them unless they are a perfect fit.
A note to Melodi: If you think the jeans are good, try the Lucky Brand bathing suits. They are fantastic!
I’m trying to figure out the logic of pairing a $715 blouse with a $59 pair of jeans when the article touts that all the jeans featured are “bargains” (under $100). And this is why Oprah makes the big bucks???? Now I feel really cheap because I wait for the Sonoma jeans to go on sale at Kohls and buy them for $19.95. Does anyone really look at the label of a “plush” 48 year old woman’s blue jeans?
As to the whole “whale tail” thing—was in a coffee shop yesterday afternoon behind another 40 something woman. The 18 year old girl making the drinks was very slow and kept bending over to pull items out of a small fridge. Yep, you guessed it. Way more information than either of us wanted to know. We looked at one another and both headed for the door at the same time. Certainly took away the appetite for coffee.
